Who, Why and How: Preparing to Secure a Literary Agent

4/25, 2:30PM

This strategic presentation reframes the literary agent search from a quest for validation into a high-level business partnership.

Moving beyond the basics, the session targets authors with established momentum, those with awards, fellowships, or a consistent publishing record, who are ready to treat their career as a long-term arc. You will learn that in 2026, an agent’s true value lies in rights management, strategic positioning, and career defense rather than just "getting published."

The "How" focuses on preparing a single flagship project with market-aware positioning and navigating targeted outreach through warm paths. By identifying when to seek representation and when to leverage alternative paths like small presses or direct-to-reader models, you ensure that your next move is driven by strategy rather than ego.

Ultimately, this talk proves that the best time to secure an agent is when your work is strong—and your professional direction is even stronger.
